Salzmann Hughes, P.C. attorneys Kurt Williams and Tyler Beaston presented “Conditional Uses and Special Exceptions:  What is the Difference?” to elected and appointed officials.   The presentation was part of the Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors’ Fall Conference at Liberty Mountain Resort.  The presentation included information about specific and general criteria for conditional uses and special exceptions and ordinance drafting tips.

Salzmann Hughes, P.C. attorneys Steve Coccorese, Zach Rice, Kurt Williams and Tim Shultis presented a panel discussion at the Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors’ Fall Conference at Liberty Mountain Resort.  The panel discussion was entitled “Municipal Horror Stories” in recognition of the date.  The interactive discussion included practice tips for attendees on how to avoid their own “horror stories” in their own municipalities.

HANOVER HOSPITAL SUCCESSFUL IN COMMONWEALTH COURT APPEAL

October 15, 2019

October 15, 2019.     Salzmann Hughes, PC client UPMC Hanover Hospital (the “Hospital”) has been successful in its efforts to gain approval to construct an off-site parking lot on Potomac Avenue near the Hospital in Hanover.  The case began in in 2016 with an application to the Hanover Borough Zoning Hearing Board (the “ZHB”).  After approvals by the ZHB, multiple appeals to the York County Court of Common Pleas followed by neighbors opposed to the proposed parking lot.  The Hospital was successful on both appeals.  The objectors then appealed the parking lot’s approval to the Commonwealth Court.   Today, the Commonwealth Court issued a decision affirming the York County Court of Common Pleas, allowing the construction of the Hospital’s new parking lot.  UPMC Hanover Hospital was represented throughout the remand and appeal process by attorney Kurt E. Williams.

On August 7th Sam Wiser and Zachary Rice, attorneys at Salzmann Hughes, P.C., presented at the Pennsylvania State Association of Boroughs 2019 Municipal Legal Update. The general session presentation included a review of recent court decisions and legislation that impact municipalities. The interactive presentation was well received by those in attendance. Sam is the Chair of Salzmann Hughes’ Municipal Practice Group and Zach focuses his practice primarily on municipal matters.

COMMUNITY AID, INC. SUCCESSFUL IN VARIANCE APPLICATION TO YORK TOWNSHIP ZONING HEARING BOARD

May 29, 2019

May 28, 2019.     Salzmann Hughes, PC client Community Aid, Inc. (“CommunityAid”) was successful in its application to the York Township Zoning Hearing Board for a variance to construct a porte-cochere at the Queensgate Shopping Center (former Bon-Ton location), to cover the donation drop-off area for its proposed new thrift store in York Township, York County, Pennsylvania.   The variance was required because the porte-cochere extends into the 50’ building setback.   CommunityAid is neighbors helping neighbors by accepting donations to create quality jobs, offer an affordable shopping experience, and support non-profit partners serving the local community.    CommunityAid was represented during the variance application process by attorney Kurt E. Williams.

Attorney Kurt E. Williams was awarded the Boy Scouts of America’s District Award of Merit

On May 4, 2019, Salzmann Hughes, PC Attorney Kurt E. Williams was awarded the Boy Scouts of America’s District Award of Merit by the New Birth of Freedom Council’s Pioneer District.  The District Award of Merit is a council award presented by districts in the same manner that the Silver Beaver is a national award presented by councils. The award is available to Scouters who render service of an outstanding nature at the district level.

2019 Cumberland County Area Friends of Scouting Breakfast

April 26, 2019 Today, Salzmann Hughes, PC attorney Kurt E. Williams served as Chairman of the 2019 Cumberland County Area Friends of Scouting Breakfast.  The event honored long-time Cumberland County businessman D. Scott Karns, CEO of Karns Quality Foods.  The breakfast raised over $35,000 to support the Boy Scouts of America through the local New Birth of Freedom Council.
