Local Attorney recognized for 60 Years of Service

The Cumberland County Bar Foundation recently honored Roger B. Irwin, Esq. of the law firm Salzmann Hughes, P.C. for over 60 years of devoted service to the legal profession.  “I am humbled by this recognition of service and I have simply been blessed in so many ways with the opportunity to help so many people through these years.” said Mr. Irwin.  “I am also especially fortunate to keep going strong working with existing clients I have known for a long time and adding new clients all the time.  I am so happy to be working with wonderful and skilled people in the Carlisle office at Salzmann Hughes where we all strive each day to help and protect our clients and their families.”  Roger noted that he believes he has surpassed writing well over a thousand wills, trust agreements, real estate agreements, and business agreements through his practice.  Mr. Irwin concentrates his practice on estate planning, estate administration, and real estate transactions.  He is a graduate of the Carlisle High School, Dickinson College, and the Dickinson School of Law.  Mr. Irwin has served as President of several civic and professional organizations including the Cumberland Bar Association, YMCA, and Children and Youth Services.  He remains active in his church and has been happily married to his wife Gerry for over 50 years.  “God has been very good to me.  At my age I am still enjoying the practice of law and look forward to each day meeting new people.  In the end, it’s about relationships and it’s about service.  I hope that through all these years that my clients know how much I care about them and appreciate being able to guide them on legal issues that they may encounter in their lives.”  Ever active in his personal life, Roger has also had the good fortune to play golf regularly, where he has repeatedly scored lower than his age, a rare accomplishment in the sport.

August 1, 2017
Today, the Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court quashed an appeal of the City of Lebanon Zoning Hearing Board (the ZHB”) when the ZHB attempted to appeal a decision of the Lebanon County Court of Common Pleas that reversed a December 2016 decision of the ZHB. That December 2016 decision by the ZHB denied a zoning permit to Salzmann Hughes, PC client Pennsylvania Counseling Services (“PCS”). The denial of the permit prevented PCS from opening a Day Reporting Center (“DRC”) within the City’s Central Business District, which PCS plans to operate under contract from Lebanon County. The Trial Court reversed the ZHB and granted PCS’s appeal allowing the DRC to open. The ZHB subsequently appealed. Today, the Commonwealth Court quashed the ZHB’s appeal for lack of jurisdiction. In a related matter, on July 11, 2017, the Lebanon County Court of Common Pleas denied the City of Lebanon’s Petition to Intervene in the land use appeal. PCS was represented throughout the hearing and appellate process by Salzmann Hughes, PC attorneys Kurt E. Williams, Esq. and Scott T. Wyland, Esq.
